2026 Lexus IS Updates Highlight Sporty Looks and Tech, According to Newest Cars

According to Newest Cars, Lexus has unveiled updates for the 2026 IS sedan, focusing on sharper styling, improved handling, and new technology features rather than a complete redesign. The refreshed model aims to keep the IS relevant as other sedans either exit the market or shift fully to electric powertrains.

The 2026 update removes the V8 engine but introduces a more aggressive front end, retuned suspension, new steering components, and upgraded tech features. These changes preserve the model’s appeal without presenting it as an all-new vehicle.

Japan vs. U.S.: Market-Specific Variations

Newest Cars reports that the 2026 IS lineup differs notably between markets. In Japan, Lexus offers a special edition based on the IS300h hybrid, providing additional styling and configuration options. In contrast, the U.S. version is limited to a single V6 engine with fewer appearance choices. Both markets include an F Sport-inspired model, but Japan allows more extensive customization.

F Sport Styling Packages

The Japanese IS F SPORT Mode Black V mirrors the U.S. IS 350 F SPORT Special Appearance Package, featuring blacked-out trim, black wheels, and minor visual tweaks. While both packages enhance sportiness visually, Newest Cars notes that Japan’s edition includes a full black Ultrasuede interior, elevating the cabin’s premium feel—a detail absent from the U.S. package.

Powertrain Differences

According to Newest Cars, Japan’s IS300h hybrid emphasizes smooth performance and fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the U.S. market receives only a V6 engine delivering 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel-drive models are paired with an eight-speed automatic, and all-wheel-drive models use a six-speed automatic. No hybrid options are offered for American buyers.

TRD Customization in Japan

Japan also benefits from a complete set of TRD accessories designed for the IS, including front spoilers, side skirts, rear diffusers, sports mufflers, chassis braces, performance dampers, and 20-inch forged wheels. Newest Cars highlights that these factory-approved parts let Japanese owners customize their vehicles extensively, a level of personalization largely unavailable in the U.S. market.

Overall, Lexus’s 2026 IS update demonstrates the brand’s commitment to keeping the sedan appealing in both Japan and the U.S., blending updated styling, technology, and performance enhancements, according to Newest Cars.
